R. Kelly - Pregnant

I don’t really know what to say to this except I like it.

A lot.

Drivin N’ Cryin - Honeysuckle Blue

No, this is not turning into a Drivin ‘N Cryin blog, but I’m posting this classic in honor of my Dawgs of Georgia re-taking their rightful place as the premier program in Georgia with a win over the domestic terrorist loving, cheating, haven of nerds, the North Avenue Trade School.

8 of 9 bitches.

Drivin N’ Cryin - Leaving On A Jet Plane

Great cover of the John Denver classic from an otherwise throwaway album.

Bloodkin - Ravin’ Beauties

One of Athens, GA’s great unknown gems.  This track is taken from the album of the same name which was released around 2001 and was largely dismissed as not as good as their previous efforts.  I’ve given it another chance over the past few years and have been pleasantly surprised.

I’ve been listening to Bloodkin for almost 12-13 years now and they still rank as one of my favorite rock n roll groups.  As David Fricke said in Rolling Stone, “…like Keith Richards and Ron Wood armed with Civil War bayonets”.

William Bell  - You Don’t Miss Your Water

In honor of the Big O Foundation awards gala in Atlanta tonight I give you the original version of one of my favorite Otis covers.  A beautiful song, by a Georgian and one of Stax’s legendary song writers, William Bell.  The Byrds later covered this on the seminal Sweetheart of the Rodeo album, which was heavily influenced by another Georgian (though not native), Gram Parsons.

Enjoy.

PS - Find the Big O’s cover of this song and get ready to be moved.  Gotta wonder what would have happened had that plane not gone down almost 42 years ago in that cold lake in Wisconsin.  What a shame.

Johnny Cash - No Expectations (Rolling Stones Cover)

Take me to the station
And put me on a train
I’ve got no expectations
To pass through here again
